Moebius Syndrome

Sleep is a foundation of physical and mental health yet has received scarce attention among individuals with Moebius syndrome. Prior research and anecdotal reports reveal an increased rate of sleep problems in this population, but the rate and features of these sleep problems has yet to be fully explored. Prior research is extremely limited by small sample sizes, sole reliance on survey methodology, and study designs that explore only one or two dimensions of sleep. Using the multidimensional sleep health framework which considers sleep across multiple domains, the proposed project seeks to comprehensively characterize sleep health among adults and children with Moebius syndrome which will aid in identifying potential treatment targets to address with behavioral sleep medicine interventions. The proposed study will employ a two-phase, mixed-methods design in order to explore the sleep health of this population from multiple approaches.
